The first American Lung Association Omaha Corporate Cup was held in 1981. It was envisioned as a unique running/walking event with a focus on company teams and proceeds going to fight lung disease in this state. For participants, the Omaha Corporate Cup was seen as a celebration of wellness, and promotion of respiratory health.
The first race attracted 29 teams and 681 individual finishers who raised $4,364. A quarter of a century later, the typical turnout of 300 teams and 10,000 individuals raises over $200,000. To date, the event has raised more than $2 million for Lung Association programs and has grown into the single largest participatory athletic event in the state.
The vast majority (97%) of participants are companies, employees and their families. Companies of all sizes have been represented at the Corporate Cup including Union Pacific Railroad, Mutual of Omaha, Gallup, First Data, First National Bank, and Nebraska Furniture Mart. |
